The joy of good sound
Recently I purchased a set of Audioengine 2 desktop speakers.
They are small, borderline cute, but they sure pack a punch you wouldn’t expect from them. Did you ever see the movie Men In Black? These speakers are the noisy cricket of sound. It has been a real pleasure trawling through my extensive music catalog and discover nuances and details that even my best headphones had kept secret to me.
In fact it has been such a pleasure that I chose to make a list of the tracks I’d suggest you try listening to on the A2’s, just for the beauty of the sounds produced by these babies. If you own a pair of A2’s, let me know what you think of this list. I deliberately chose rather mainstream tracks that I suspect most would be able to access. No out of print rarities here.
(I hope!)
(I hope!)
So, here goes:
- La Estiba - Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin - from The Guitar Trio
- Secrets And Lies - Jonatha Brooke - from 10 Cent Wings
- You And Your Friend - Dire Straits - from On Every Street
- Why Worry - Dire Straits - from Brothers In Arms
- Crazy Faith - Alison Krauss & Union Station - from New Favorite
- Nadia - Nitin Sawhney - from Beyond Skin
- Downside-Up - Peter Gabriel - from Ovo
- Etude - Mike Oldfield - from The Killing Fields
- Slow Dancing In A Burning Room - John Mayer - from Where The Light Is
- Babylon Sisters - Steely Dan - from Gaucho
- Lewis & Clark - Tommy Emmanuel - from The Mystery
As I look at this list, much of it features a lot of guitar playing. In fact I went through even more guitar driven music and I discovered that the A2’s quite simply make a well recorded guitar come to life.
Give the A2’s a spin when you have the chance. And try playing one of the tracks from this list. My guess is you won’t be disappointed.
